Jukebox Mystery Party:

Music will be Potluck in Room 1 and Whip in Room 4. Dancers will pick the music for both rooms.  DJ will take Requests.   No requests, no music. Tough.  You all love to complain about the DJ's music, so this is your night to pick your own songs to dance to!!

Room 1 might be a Swing Party, a Tango Party, Salsa or Western.  Who knows??
The Voters will decide.

SATURDAY, MAY 21

Crash Courses 7 - 9 pm
$14 Person, $22 Couple /
Register at the Door

BEG TWO STEP - Abbie
Prerequisite: The Ability to Walk.

The Texas Twostep is the most important Country and Western dance. It is easy to learn and fun to use. From George Strait's "Fool Hearted Memory" to Shania Twain's "Holding onto Love", the Twostep is used to a wide variety of C&W music. When you live in Houston, Texas, you should get plenty of opportunities where a little knowledge of the Twostep will come in pretty handy

DIRTY DANCING - Ben Liles
Prerequisite: Couples only!

This class in "Dirty Dancing" is without a doubt one of the most popular Crash Courses in the history of the studio. The moves are taken directly from the movie and would be quite impressive to watch if we could just get everyone to quit laughing so hard!!

Yes, the moves are quite sexy if done properly, but everyone has too much fun to take them seriously. Bring a smile and an open mind. You will have a ball!

BEG WESTERN WALTZ - Scott
Prerequisite:  None

Western Waltz is considered the "Romantic" Western dance. The stakes being what they are, no sensible man should ignore this important dance!

Western Waltz patterns are taken from Ballroom Waltz. Western Waltz moves are simply Ballroom Waltz patterns that "travel" around the floor. Later on expect plenty of Western Waltzes like “You Look So Good in Love” and “Open Arms” to practice to at the dance party.

BEG WESTERN CHA CHA
 -
Jill

Cha Cha is one of the Dance World's coolest dances. For one thing, it is an incredibly versatile dance. Cha Cha can be used to Tito Puente or Marc Anthony Salsa music, romantic Country-Western Polka music, Disco music with a Latin Beat, 50's Sock Hop music like "Johnny Angel", and popular music like Santana's recent Grammy winner "Smooth".

Cha Cha patterns can vary from the simple to the complex and will even use double turns when the mood strikes. Best of all, the Cha Cha has an attractive hip motion that make pretty dresses do the exact same thing that Gap Khakis do for Swing dancing.

Cha Cha is flirtatious, sexy, easy to learn, and lots of fun! Plus you will get plenty of chances to use it during the party later on.

LINDA'S FAVORITE DEATH VALLEY PATTERNS
 - Linda Cook
Prerequisite:  Adv Western Swing or higher,

Linda Cook has seen it all. When it comes to Western Swing she has had every move in the book tried on her at one time or another and come up with quite a few tricks of her own in the process.

Tonight Linda reveals her all-time favorite Western Swing moves in this special Crash Course that will test everyone's courage to the limit!

PS - Don't be too worried. Linda has a heart.

GARY'S FAV MARTIAN WHIP PTRNS
 - Gary Richardson
Prerequisite: Lunar Whip or Higher

Gary Richardson taught his Favorite Whip Patterns in March and it was the best attended Crash Course of the night.  And the students said they loved it.  So let's see what else Gary has in his bag of tricks!

About The SSQQ Jukebox Party

Written by Rick Archer

The SSQQ Jukebox Party is a Do-the-Music-Yourself Dance Party. Room One is Potluck Dancing. Maybe half the people ask for Salsa music. Then half the music is Salsa. Or half the people ask for Swing songs. Then that is what we play.

You can either pick your favorite song to dance to or just say something like "Western Waltz". We prefer you ask for a specific song though. It is up to the DJ to group them according to type of music, but if we have it, we promise to play your request sometime in the evening. If other people don't like it, tough.

One choice per customer until the DJ announces his play card has some openings. Second choices may be unlikely since the math says 100 requests will keep the music flowing on both dance floors for 3 hours. However history shows that some people don't make a request which opens the door. Then maybe we can take a second request.

Rumor has it that many members of the SSQQ Community desire newer music and different music for variety. This is your opportunity to personally help improve the music at the studio. If you request a song and we don't have it, we will be happy to play it if you hand the DJ the CD.  We will even play goofy songs if you insist!  For example, last year someone asked for some weird song called the "Sadomasochistic Tango."  Your request has to be on the level.

In other words, if you have a song you would like to dance to, especially if it is a newer hits, bring your CD with you and share your song with everyone.

If we don't have your song and you didn't bring it with you, we will give you another choice. Songs will be played in First Come-First Played basis.

It's a Mystery !!!

So is this going to be a Swing Party? Maybe. Is it going to be a Waltz Party? Maybe. Is it going to be a Whip Party? Who knows? I am as curious as you are. This is the dance-music version of a Potluck Dinner. You never know what dishes might be brought. My guess is the music will be pretty good...or... there is going to a lot less complaining about the DJ (fat chance of that happening).

It's Mathematical!!!

When you enter the Party, you will be given a form to list your song.  Let's do some math. SSQQ Parties draw about 100 people. The party is 3 hours and the average song is 3 to 4 minutes long. The math adds up to 50 songs. The first 50 songs go to Room 1, the second 50 songs go to Room 4. I will be making announcements of the upcoming songs in Room 4 so you can keep track. I will also announce who chose the song.

What if no one likes my Song?

So will the Party consist of songs like "Elvira", "Trashy Women", and Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits?  Maybe. Just remember I just might announce who chose what song. If someone wants to torture their friends, I guess that is just the chance we have to take. You can always go to the other room to try the song playing there. I might add if I catch anyone suggesting a song, then not dancing to it, I will be sure to make a note of it in the Grapevine for public knowledge.

No Whining - You Asked for it !!!

We will have No Complaining about the DJ. After all, You Asked For it!!

If you don't like the music, go out on the floor and yell at the dancers. It's their fault.

This is a party where the lunatics run the asylum

The DJ intends to enjoy himself thoroughly.

No Whining will be tolerated.
That's the rule ;-)
