TEXAS TWO STEP -
Kerry
Prerequisite: None, This class is for Beginners
The Texas Twostep is the most important Country and Western dance. It is easy to learn and fun to use. From George Strait's "Fool Hearted Memory" to Shania Twain's "Holding onto Love", the Twostep is used to a wide variety of C&W music. When you live in Houston, Texas, you should get plenty of opportunities where a little knowledge of the Twostep will come in pretty handy
TWOSTEP/POLKA CIRCLE TURNS -
Linda
Prerequisite: The Ability to Twostep
and Polka ahead of time.
This is an intermediate course for students who have already had our Beginner Twostep/Polka course. This course covers the tricks behind multiple clockwise and counter clockwise Circle Turns. It is great way to get girls dizzy when you run out of wine.
DANCE
TIME IN TEXAS -
Rick
Prerequisite:
Couples only, strong knowledge of Polka
Dance Time in Texas is a
song sung by George Strait. The song is a Western Polka with some
Waltz in it as well. The song lends itself nicely to a choreographed couples
dance based on Same Foot Synchronized Polka as well as Same Foot Western
Waltz.
Think of the dance as an advanced form of the Cotton Eyed Joe.
The Dance Time in Texas routine is not difficult, but it is
too complicated to teach out on the dance floor. So we will learn the
dance in this crash course and perform it together at the dance party later
on.
If we finish early, we will learn more
Synchronized Polka patterns.
As for the 'couples only' requirement, this is not a hard and fast rule.
What we need is an even number of men and women. So if
you want to sign up as a 'Single' and take your chances, that's fine as long
as the class balances out. But if we have five extra men or five extra
women 10 minutes into the class, we will ask the "Extras" to go find another
Crash Course to take instead.
Night Club
- Scott
Prerequisite: Beg
Twostep/Polka
Danced to slow, romantic songs,
Night Club is an unusual dance that is best described as an "active" form of
Slow Dancing. Combining a
special blend of Ballroom patterns taken from Rumba,
Bolero, Foxtrot,
and Waltz,
Night club is a pretty dance to
watch and fun to use. Nor is it difficult to learn.
A unique feature of Night Club is that it is danced apart. This allows
people without romantic partners to dance to Slow Music in a very
stylish manner. You would be surprised at the number of songs that would normally be considered "Slow Music"
that suddenly become exciting to dance to once you master this unique dance.
In recent years, Night Club has become a
fixture on the Country-Western competition dance circuit. It works
perfectly to Western ballads such as "Breathe" by Faith Hill.
BEG
WESTERN WALTZ - tba
Prerequisite: None
Western Waltz is considered the "Romantic" Western dance. The
stakes being what they are, no sensible man should ignore this important
dance! The moves are quite graceful and the music
is very pretty.
Western
Waltz patterns are taken from Ballroom Waltz. Some
Waltz patterns travel and others such as the Box Step are danced in one
area. Western Waltz moves include
the Ballroom Waltz patterns that
automatically "travel" around the floor
just as a Twostep or Polka would. At the
party later on expect plenty of Western Waltzes like “You Look So Good in
Love” and “Open Arms” to practice to at the dance party.
SLOW DANCING
- Marla
Prerequisite:
Couples only, No Switching partners
Slow
Dancing is a derivative of Foxtrot. Most people can shuffle from
foot to foot, but when
it comes to Slow Dancing well, the majority of people are
clueless.
This course covers ways to Slow Dance gracefully with
several footwork combinations. We explain how different songs may
require different timing and footwork.
There are moments when the ability to
slow dance gracefully can be the most important skill in the world
and if you don't have that skill, you're out of luck.
This is the perfect chance
to learn more about the Lost Art of Formal Dancing.
JACK'S FAVORITE
WEST COAST SWING PATTERNS -
Jack
CANCELLED
Prerequisite:
Advanced Whip/WCS
Jack Benard has many patterns the
current generation of SSQQ Whip dancers have never seen before.
Come and see what he has to offer!
RICK ARCHER'S NOTE:
THIS COURSE WAS CANCELED FOR A VERY GOOD REASON - JACK AND HIS FIANCÉE
JACKIE HAVE LEFT THE COUNTRY TO VISIT MALAYSIA FOR A MONTH. HE IS
GOING TO MALAYSIA TO 'GET PERMISSION' SO TO SPEAK.
DURING MUCH OF JULY I WAS IN GREECE AND JACK DID NOT LINE UP A SUBSTITUTE
WHILE I WAS GONE. I WOULD GUESS THAT HE WAS PREOCCUPIED. SO THE
SIMPLE THING TO DO IS SAY GOODBYE TO THIS CLASS FOR JULY.
